That would work, and actually, the weight of the furniture would probably hold it in place, BUT berber will unravel easily and especially at the doorway where you'll have the heaviest traffic. Or should we just bite the bullet and purchase a couple of large area rugs for my son's room and use the leftover carpet somewhere else in the house? Is it possible to simply cut the carpet to fit the edges of the room snugly and not attach it to the floor underneath? Perhaps baseboard moulding could be installed to help hold the edges in place for a year or two? If we skip the padding underneath, that would eliminate the need to staple across the room, but the tack strips around the edge of the room would still require lots of nails through the Pergo. But the Pergo that is currently on the floor is in perfect shape and I shudder at the thought of stapling and/or nailing into it. We have a scrap of leftover berber carpet that would be the perfect size (with a little trimming) to cover the whole floor, including the closet. My son will be moving from a crib to a toddler bed soon and we'd like to have something a little softer underneath him to cushion him as he falls out of bed and muffle the noises he'll make as he plays with toys during naptime, etc. I'm wondering if it's possible to install carpet on top of Pergo without destroying the laminate flooring.
